Summer is here. Everyone is eager to head out to the beach to soak up the sun and take their well-deserved break. Many Americans go down to the south, where the excellent weather and the views are amazing.

There are plenty of destinations waiting for you to discover, including the fantastic coastlines at Cabo San Lucas, Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Cozumel, and Akumal in Mexico.

The Royal Holiday Vacation Club has partner hotels and resorts at these places. A Royal Holiday Vacation membership will let you book your stays at discounted rates. Just remember to bring the following for a more relaxing time at the beach:

1. Proper Clothing

Sure, there is nothing wrong with looking fashionable while walking along the white sandy coast. But make sure that your clothes are suitable for the weather conditions for your health and safety.

Avoid excessive sun exposure around noon because the heat can be punishing. Skin damage is also a significant concern.

Cover up with long and loose clothes if you need to go out for lunch or other activities. These should have breathable fabrics to let air flow freely and prevent heat build-up so you can stay cool all day.

2. Sunglasses

It is a given that we should never look at the sun directly. However, how sunshine reflects on objects can still irritate our eyes.

Glare can also be dangerous whether you drive a car or ride a bike because squinting will delay your response to road hazards.

Whether walking on the beach or moving about a resort town that you booked with Royal Holiday Vacation Club, wear protective sunglasses from reputable manufacturers. These should have UV protection for eye health. Polarized glasses can also reduce glare and make it easier to look at your surroundings.

3. Sun Screen

It is natural for the skin to darken after sun exposure. Some even like the effect as they appreciate their new look.

However, beachgoers should be careful about excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays. It is known to cause skin cancer over the long run.

It may also cause sunburn if you fail to take cover. Never fall asleep on the beach during the day, even if it’s cloudy. Apply generous amounts of sunscreen before heading out of your face down to your feet. If sweat or swim, reapply.

4. Hat

Sometimes sunglasses are not enough. You may need to seek shelter under a beach umbrella, a leafy tree, or a shaded structure for relief from the sun. If you are on the move, you may want to wear a hat with a wide brim.

At the very least, wear a cap that can protect your face from harsh sunlight. Look for headwear with breathable materials that allow air to flow in and out. This will prevent the build-up of heat and sweat on your head, which could also be potentially dangerous.

5. Water Bottle

Another way to beat the heat is through ample hydration. Bring your water bottle to the beach so that you can drink any time you want.

Bringing your own water bottle can save you money since resorts typically have a high markup. You will lose water in your body through sweat. Replenish this with occasional gulps to quench your thirst.

If you can fill it with an electrolyte drink, that is even better. You need to maintain a certain amount of minerals like sodium and potassium for electrolyte balance. Insulated bottles work best.

6. Trash Bag

You are bound to produce waste at the beach: discarded food, packaging materials, unnecessary items, etc.

Don’t just throw these on the ground and wait for the cleaning staff to clear them for you. The water might pull these in during high tide, contributing to ocean pollution. Instead, bring a trash bag and place all your waste inside.

Discard this properly at the hotel, which should have a suitable waste management system. Help protect the environment with this simple yet significant act.

Although many of the Royal Holiday Vacation Club resorts have staff to help clean up, it’s still important to manage your trash to ensure it doesn’t accidentally end up in the ocean.

7. Beach Towel

If you plan to stay at the beach for a long time, you should probably bring a large beach towel. Use this to shield your body from the sand when you lay down for sunbathing.

You may also use this as a mat for picnics. Shake off the grains of sand before you fold it. Consider a smaller towel for use after a shower. Find options that have quick-dry fabrics.

8. Cooler

If you are going with a group, you might want to bring a sizable cooler to the beach. Fill this up with ice and your favorite canned or bottled beverages. Cold drinks should be extra refreshing under the sun.

The insulated walls will keep things chilled the entire day. Look for soft coolers that are made of thick water-resistant fabrics. These will save weight and space in your luggage.

Some are also available as backpacks which are easier to carry around. You can also use them for your next camping trip.

9. Beach Chair

Popular beaches have chairs and other facilities for rent. However, the large crowd might get to them before you do.

Consider bringing lightweight folding chairs with mesh on the back to keep you cool while providing ample support. Aluminum frames are better than steel for portability.

Some even have a footrest and a reclining back for greater comfort. You can opt for models that have bottle holders and accessory compartments. These will keep things organized and easy to reach.

10. Books and Entertainment

Make use of the quiet time to go through your reading list. Bring books or an e-book reader to learn new things. You could also opt for audiobooks to listen to while enjoying the view.

The Royal Holiday Vacation Club offers travelers the best deals around the world. If you are interested in a beach trip for your summer vacation, secure your Royal Holiday Vacation membership and reap all the benefits. Get excellent accommodations at luxury establishments for your family without spending a fortune.
