South Africa’s right-handed fast bowler Lungisani Ngidi can do just about anything. The 26-year-old can be a good opener or a good “death bowler.” The South African, who was born on March 29, 1996, in Durban, can regularly bowl faster than 140 km/h, and his short pitch deliveries can make things hard for the batsman.
- Domestic Career
Ngidi has been playing cricket for the provincial team since he was 13 years old. He joined the Kwa-Zulu Natal Under-19 cricket team when he was 13, and he quickly became one of the best players on the team.
In 2015, Northerns was his first team in the South African domestic circuit. Ngidi was put on the Northerns T20 team for the 2015 Africa T20 Cup not long after his first match.
He was second in the tournament for wickets taken with 6 at an average of 12.5. So, in 2016, he was named the Most Valuable Player at the Africa T20 Cup. After Ngidi did really well in the 2015 Africa T20 Cup, the Titans bought him for the 2015-2016 season. Ngidi was a big part of the Titans’ success, and the team won both seasons with him on the team.
- International Career
T20 International
In 2017, Ngidi played his first international game for his country. It was a Twenty20 match against Sri Lanka. He bowled well and got two wickets. After South Africa won, he was named Man of the Match.
Test Career
Ngidi made his Test debut at age 21 in 2018 against India. In his first game as a professional, Ngidi’s speed and bounce stood out. In the second innings, he hit six people, including Virat Kohli, who was a key player. The match’s Most Valuable Player award went to Ngidi because of how well he did in the second innings, when he took six wickets and let only 39 runs through.
ODI Career
Since Ngidi did so well in his first Test, he was chosen for the ODI team that will play India. His price was high, though, because he gave up 47 runs in 6 overs without getting any wickets. Ngidi’s career has been hampered by injuries. Most recently, he hurt his hamstring and had to miss a few games at the 2019 World Cup, which he and his team would rather forget.
Background
Jerome Ngidi, Ngidi’s father, works as a maintenance worker at Kloof Junior School. This means that Ngidi grew up in a simple home. He was always smart, well-behaved, and obedient.
He first wanted to be a rugby player, but after getting hurt a lot in school, he changed his mind and now wants to be a cricket player.
Even though South African pacer Lungi Ngidi was bought by Chennai Super Kings for only INR 50 lakhs in 2018, the news barely mentioned the deal. Fans knew that he was fast and had the chance to become a reliable player at the highest level, but that was about it. Even though no one thought he would be a key player, he was put in the starting lineup.
At the time, he did things to make sure he wouldn’t mess it up. Lungi Ngidi got off to a great start in the IPL by taking every chance he got. He would have liked to build on that the next year, but a side strain kept him out of the competition and made that impossible. He will be back next year, but this time he will be playing for Chennai Super Kings and wearing their signature yellow.
According to ipl sports news today, three of the best bowling games that Lungi Ngidi has played in the IPL.
- 1/20 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad
The IPL gives young athletes from all over the world, not just India, a chance to improve their skills. Lungi Ngidi is one of the few people who can become a regular on the sidelines. For CSK, Ngidi’s best time came in a playoff 1 game against Sunrisers Hyderabad that they had to win.
When Hyderabad batted first, they only got 139 runs. Deepak Chahar got rid of opener Shikhar Dhawan, and then he got rid of the other opener, Shreevats Goswami. Ngidi then joined the party. From then on, he was very consistent, and the Hyderabad batsmen had a hard time getting going until they had played all of his overs.
- 2/14 vs Delhi Capitals
Lungi Ngidi’s best bowling performances in the IPL: At the Arun Jaitley stadium, he was able to get wickets and limit the number of runs scored by the Delhi Capitals. As Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant opened the innings for the Capitals, they looked strong.
When Ngidi got Shreyas Iyer out, the partnership was over. When he sent Pant back to the locker room a few balls later, the whole mood of the game changed. He also helped CSK keep Capitals to 162 runs by letting them score only 14 runs in 3 overs.
- 4/10 vs Kings XI Punjab
So far, Ngidi’s best IPL performance is a perfect spell, which is a classic example of a good spell. It has a very rare “maiden over,” a “four-wicket haul,” and a “economy rate” of less than four runs per over. Before Chris Gayle could even get his first run, he struck in the first over and sent him back to the bench.
The Punjabis hadn’t even had time to get over their first loss when they were hit with another devastating blow. This time, another opener, KL Rahul, was taken out by Ngidi’s bowling. After the captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, brought in the spin bowlers, he was taken out of the attack. Ngidi went back into the game and kept bowling like he had never been out of the game. In the same over, he beat both Andrew Tye and Ravichandran Ashwin.
